How to Buy a Number Plate in Malaysia
Last updated 2 September 2026
This guide explains exactly how a purchase works with Mega Erawan Numbers Sdn Bhd (202501019483) — a SSM-registered number plate dealer trading since 2016 — so you know what to expect before you commit.
The 4 steps to owning your plate
Choose your number
Browse the live inventory or WhatsApp us with what you're looking for, including plates not yet listed.
Confirm on WhatsApp
We confirm the price and bank transfer details with you directly, before any commitment is made.
We handle the JPJ transfer
Once payment is completed, we manage the paperwork and submission. You only need one visit to JPJ, for your thumbprint.
Receive your plate & receipt
We coordinate with your salesperson and deliver within — or ahead of — the agreed timeframe, with an official receipt and tax invoice.
Direct purchase vs. JPJ open tender
JPJ's own open tender is a legitimate way to get a plate — but it isn't the only way, and it isn't always the easiest. Here's the practical difference.
✓ Buying direct (from us)
- ·Fixed, confirmed price before any payment
- ·No bidding, no waiting for a tender to close
- ·We handle the JPJ transfer paperwork for you
JPJ open tender
- ·Final price unknown until the tender closes
- ·You can invest time and still lose the bid
- ·Transfer paperwork is arranged separately, by you
What decides a plate's price?
Prices range from a few hundred ringgit to several hundred thousand, depending mainly on:
- Digit count and pattern — single and double-digit plates command the highest premiums.
- Repetition and sequence — running numbers, palindromes and other recognisable patterns.
- Personal significance — birthdates, lucky numbers, or numbers meaningful to the buyer.
- Series rarity — older, fixed-supply series versus newer, more open series.
- Current demand — like any collectible, value moves with what buyers want right now.
We don't operate a fixed pricing formula — every quote reflects the plate's actual position against these factors, confirmed with you directly on WhatsApp.
Why some plates are listed "price on request"
A small number of rare or high-demand plates on our live inventory show as POA instead of a fixed number. That's not a display error — it means the price depends on current market interest, so we ask you to WhatsApp us for a direct quote rather than post a figure that could change week to week. Everything else is listed at a fixed, confirmed price you can act on immediately.
What we handle for you
- Sourcing. Don't see the number you want listed? WhatsApp us — we may be able to source it.
- JPJ paperwork & submission. We prepare and submit the transfer, start to finish.
- Transfer coordination. We coordinate directly with your salesperson or dealer for the physical handover.
- Documentation. Every purchase comes with an official receipt and tax invoice.
Before you commit, ask these questions
- Is the seller SSM-registered, and can they prove it? You can verify any company yourself at mydata-ssm.com.my.
- Will you receive an official receipt and tax invoice for the transaction?
- Is the price fixed and confirmed in writing before you pay anything?
- Who is responsible for the JPJ transfer, and what happens if it's delayed?
- Are you paying into a registered business bank account — not a personal one?

Buying safely: avoid the scams
Real money changes hands in this market, and unfortunately that attracts bad actors. Watch out for:
- Sellers demanding full payment before any JPJ paperwork has started
- Refusal to meet, call, or verify identity and company registration
- Prices that seem far below what a plate's category would normally command
- No SSM registration, or refusal to provide one for verification
- No official receipt or tax invoice offered for the transaction
Run through the five questions above with any seller before you pay — a legitimate dealer will have a straight answer for every one of them.
